Hey! I’m looking for a Legislative Aide. This is a super important position and a decision I’m not taking lightly. I have a vision for Louisville and it’s vital that you share and support that vision. I need a good LA by my side—one who is trustworthy, hardworking, and level-headed. We will be working very closely together, so it’s very important that we get along as colleagues and friends (but I am your boss, so don’t get it twisted 😜).

Job Duties/Responsibilities (although not limited to):

  • Field and address constituent concerns, largely through phone calls and emails

  • Research and analyze issues, track legislation, and prepare my briefings and meeting materials

  • Work with a multitude of internal and external agencies to move projects forward and resolve constituent issues

  • Manage special projects and events

  • Speak in front of groups and make appearances when I’m not able to

  • Create office communications, such as a digital newsletter, social media, and various PR

  • Manage the district calendar and my calendar

  • Manage grant applications and the district budget

Mandatory:

  • A stupendous personality

  • Social media savvy (like, you understand a brand guide)

  • Basic graphic design skillz

  • Excellent communicator, both verbally and written (dazzle me with your good grammar)

  • An independent, self-starter—bring your ideas to the table and always strive to do better

  • This level of organization: 🤯

  • A creative compromiser

  • Attention to detail

Ideal, but not mandatory:

  • D15 resident

  • Prior government or non-profit experience

Is the job remote? Eh, kinda? Not really? It’s flexible. Sometimes you’ll hang out with me at Metro Hall. Sometimes you’ll hang out by yourself at Metro Hall. Sometimes you might work from home. Sometimes you might be out and about in the district. Either way, you’ll need to be able to create a flexible work schedule that includes some early mornings or late nights.

If you’re okay with being the sidekick, aren’t scared of “strong” personalities (😉), live and die by a beautiful Google Calendar, color-code your emails, are a master to-do list writer/get-it-doner, and, most of all, are excited to change Louisville, then send that resume over: team@jenniferformetrocouncil.com; subject line: Legislative Aide Position.

Salary is negotiable and based on experience/compatibility. We’ll discuss this more in person. I can say it’ll be a minimum of $50,000 and you’ll have those nice government benefits that everyone is always talking about.

Deadline to apply: Friday, November 11th at 11:59 PM

There will be an orientation for Metro Council members and their staff on Monday, November 28th and Tuesday, November 29th from 8 am to 5 pm. This means: 1) I’ll be making this decision fairly quickly; 2) You may need to make arrangements to be free those days.
